Today we talked more about population and Hans Rosling. He teaches global health. He used animating in real space to show populations in countries and their GDP per capita. In 1810 countries had a life expectancy of 40 years old. They made less than $4,000 per year. The life expectancy was so low because at the time there was a high infant mortality rate and maternal morality rate. The UK had a life expectancy above 40. They had a higher life expectancy because they were the first country in the world to learn how to mass produce goods. This was because of the industrial revolution. By 1917 most countries had their own industrial revolution and began to grow in life expectancy and GDP per capita. Smaller developing countries in Africa still have not experience their own industrial revolution. Because of this they were pretty low on life expectancy and GDP per capita. WWII and the Spanish flu had a major effect on the life expectancy on the world during 1917. Many men were drafted into
I wasn't in class today because I had a game.
For class today we got our test back and experimented with Population Pyramid. I scored a 90% on the test. I got three questions wrong, one of them I should've gotten right but I was in the wrong section. The other two I got confused with and switched their places around. Crude birth rate is births per 1000 people per year. Total fertility rate is the average number of children born per woman. That is the correct answers, but on the test, I had those answers flipped around in the wrong spot. The population website was very easy to work and cool. First of all, I can get the population of countries I need very easily. It takes me half the time to find a countries population, compared to the world fact book. Also, the population pyramid is made for people who are visual. In this class we often compare populations to each other. The population pyramid gives you the population in graphs, which is way easier to comprehend and compare than numbers. I would recommend using the population
Today we had a test on the population. the first page was definitely the easiest part of the whole test. I finished that with ease and 10 minutes to spare. The fill in the blank was also easy. It didn't take me too long to find the answers one by one. Although I nearly got two of my answers mixed up. The math I had a little trouble with it. I almost used the wrong formula, eventually I figured it out. The bonus question was completely unexpected. Never even thought about the question or the answer. I don't know if anyone got it, but if they did they have good memory. Next time i'm going to study everything so i can at least attempt to answer the bonus questions. Those points could be the difference between an A and a B.
Today we reviewed for our test on Friday. Pull and push forces are terms that i must remember. Also i have to do some math for the test as well. The rate of natural increase is produced by the death rate subtracted from the birth rate. I definitely need to remember that for tomorrow. Canada is a pull force country. It has good health care and the only problem they have in the country is border issues wit h America. Afghanistan is a push force country. It has major drug cartels all over the country. Small towns are being run by the drug cartels which leads to violence. The drug cartels sell drugs that Americans buy all the time. Until we stop buying the drugs, the cartel will continue to run the country. Mexico and El Salvador are also push countries. Mexico has drug cartels as well.  The drug cartel is 3rd in the world, so they run most of the country in mexico. While mexico has push factors they also have pull factors. El Salvador has a bad economy. So they go to Mexico to have a bet
Push forces include civil war, environmental degradation, unemployment, religious/ethnic persecution. Pull forces include better economic opportunity, health services, religious freedoms and political freedom. Total Fertility Rate (TFR) is the average number of children born per woman. For the population to remain the same, the TFR must be 2.1 because the 2 kids will replace the parents when they die. If the TFR is greater than 2.1, then the population rises. If the TFR is less than 2.1, then the population decreases. The world TFR is 2.42, it was 2.54 two years ago and 2.47 last year. The United States TFR is 2.01, it was previously 2.06 last year. The population in America keeps rising because of immigration, even though their TFR is lower than 2.1. Nigeria is the highest nation with a TFR of 6.89, they are a developing country. Japan is the lowest with a TFR of 1.40, most of their population is old and can't have kids.
What is the population of China, and of India?  China- 1,384,688,986, India- 1,296,834,042 What is the Total Fertility Rate in Japan? 7.5/1,000 What is the death rate in El Salvador? 5.8/1,000 What percentage of the French identify “none” as their religion? Is this statistic verifiable, and why? 23-28%, it is not verifiable because France does not officially check religions What percentage of Mexicans identify themselves as Roman Catholic? 82.7% identify as Roman Catholic What is the GDP - per capita (PPP) in the United States? The GPD is 59,800 What is the GDP - per capita (PPP) in Nigeria? The GPD is 1,200 What is the GDP - per capita (PPP) in Luxembourg? The GPD is 105,100 What percentage of the United States’ population are Internet users? The percentage of Americans that are internet users is 76.2% What is the number of airports in Russia, and in the United States? United States- 13,513 Russia-  1,218 How many people in the
Today we learned more about population. There are two types of countries in the world. They are classified as either developing countries or developed countries. Developing countries have a low life expectancy. But they do have a high death rate in their countries. This could be caused by war, disease, drugs, crime. Developing countries have less resources to use to fix their problems. Most places don't even have proper plumbing yet so it's going to take them a long time to fix their problems. A developed country has a high life expectancy and low death rate. This caused by good health care, exercise for kids, drug regulations and strict laws. In 1804 the world reached 1 billion in the population for the first time. Life expectancy is the average number of year's to be lived by a group of people born in the same year.
We got our tests back today. The class averaged around a 75%. We had notes to use and we still tied with the honors class who didn't have notes. I need to take better notes for my blog. All my notes were in my notebook but we won't use that. We will only be using the blogs. A couple of people got A's on the test. Others not so much. Fun fact every single person who took the test got this one question wrong. It was a trick question that messed with our perception and our thinking. The question had specific coordinates on it, but it doesn't exist in the world. Everyone just took one glance at the numbers and and assumed it was absolute location. It worked because no one got it right, next time we won't be tricked
Today for class we talked about population. There are +7.6 billion people on Earth. The population increases by 73 million/yr, 8377/hr, 149/min and 2.5/sec. 90% of population growth takes place in developing countries in Africa, South/East Asia and Latin America. Crude birth rate is the number of births per 1,000 of the population. Crude death rate is the number of deaths per 1,000 of the population. The Rate of Natural Increase is produced by subtracting the death rate from the birth rate. This gives us the annual natural growth rate in percentage form- for a country or region. Net migration Rate is the difference between the number of persons entering and leaving a country during a year. An excess of persons entering a country is net immigration. For example: Canada has 5.65 migrants per 1000 population. An excess of persons leaving a country is net emigration.
I wasn't in class today because I had a sophomore retreat.
For class today we had a quiz. The quiz was easy, but I went through it way too fast. I've learned in school if you're taking a test and you're one of the top five to finish, something is wrong. You definitely can't be the first to finish, that's just asking for bad luck. We were allowed to use our blogs, so I guess that's why I finished so fast. Many people already stopped doing their blogs, and now they're taking a long time to finish the test. I feel confident in my test but still a little nervous. It's a 100-point test, we're taking big tests several times in each quarter, so the pressure is on us. Anyways I'm sure people will get back to doing their blogs now after today. The people who left today for their games have no idea they can use their blogs. Someone will probably tell them, but it won't help since it will look suspicious if all the answers on the test suddenly showed up on their blog.
Today for class we had a pop quiz. I know I got 6/10 questions wrong on the quiz. I could only study once during this whole week, so I had little help. It seems like most of the class was pretty freaked out when they heard we had a pop quiz. Obviously, they never had one before, high school amateurs.  It's a private school so they should expect some teachers to give out pop quizzes. Apparently, someone got a 100% on the quiz. I would expect that from him, he's always been smart since I met him in middle school. I definitely need to study soon but I have a game Saturday, so we'll see how it goes. I have a feeling some of my classmates will do good on the test, but others not so much. Maybe some people will do better next week, it is all up to them and their choices. 7/10 isn't so bad.

Today in class we had a quiz. The quiz was on the north and central American countries. I believe I got one of the answers wrong on the North American countries. Other than that, it was easy. I studied hard during advisory, so the countries were still fresh in my mind. That last minute study was a major help to me. The website was also a huge help to me. It took me eight tries, but I finally got 100% on both categories and under a minute. The most frustrating was definitely the north American countries. The countries down south are so small and close together I got them confused. For some reason I kept putting Costa Rica where Honduras should be. It was very frustrating at first but eventually on the day of the quiz I was able to tell the two apart. The central America countries were the easiest to identify. The countries were spaced out and much larger.
